Lippie Love: Fall Edition

l20

In the past year or so, I have become completely obsessed with collecting lip products–lip scrubs, lip liners, lip glosses, lipsticks, you name it. With Fall quickly approaching, I decided to pull out my 5 most-used, casually wearable fall-esque lipsticks to share with you all today.

(And yes, I’m due for a nail appointment on Monday, so please ignore those.)

NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil – Cruella

l5l6

At a certain point in time, I believed that I couldn’t pull off a red lip. And as a woman of color, many have the same perspective. However, I was completely wrong. What I love about this particular lipstick, besides the fact that it’s used like a jumbo crayon, is that it isn’t a very vivid red, but is more muted (in part due to it’s pencil-like formula). It’s vibrant enough to give you that infamous bold red lip look, but so much so that you look overwhelming. And it provides beautiful pigment. The consistency imparts a velvety smooth matte finish that doesn’t leave your lips drying, and is long-lasting, though not transfer proof.

You can use this product as a lip liner, an overall lip color, or pair it with another lip product. And when your color is getting low, simply use an eye pencil sharpener to sharpen it up. You’ll certainly look like Ms. Cruella De Vil with this lipstick, but surely with more sex appeal.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipstick – LAX

While we’re on the subject of reds, let’s take it a few shades deeper. In my opinion, LAX is the perfect Fall red. It’s described as being a “vampy blackened red”, and rightly so. If you know me, you know that Colourpop is one of my favorite affordable brands. Their company is becoming more easily known as the go-to for affordable liquid lipsticks, and this product is no exception to the hype. The consistency goes on smoothly and dries very quickly to a matte finish. Unlike the previous mention, this lipstick is practically transfer proof.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick – Sandstorm

Everyone needs the perfect nude in their collection for any season. Fall is no exception. Sandstorm is a true nude, and I always pair it with a coffee-colored lip liner to make it the perfect nude to compliment my skin complexion. This product glides on very smoothly, and I would describe it as having a mousse-like finish when it first touches your lips (though not as mousse-y as its older cousins–the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams). And did I mention that it’s waterproof? Yes! Sandstorm is sure not to disappoint.

This NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick retails for $7 USD and can be found in drugstores, in-stores and online at Ulta, and at nyxcosmetics.com.

* I would like to take a second to mention that starting on September 13, 2016, NYX Cosmetics will be launching their Liquid Suede Vault on their website, which includes all 24 shades of the Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks for only $49! This set will also be available at Ulta, but that date is to be determined.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquefied Lipstick – Evil Twin

With the exception of a few eyeshadow palettes, I don’t own too many Too Faced products, as many of their face products don’t tailor very well to women of color, but this product has won me over…and then some. Words cannot express how truly beautiful and pigmented this lipstick is. In all honesty, when I picked this up at Sephora, I wanted to cry tears of joy. You have never seen a deep black cherry so gorgeous until you have seen this. Its formula glides over the lips like a gloss but dries to an ultra-matte opaque finish, and is long-lasting, so no need to repeatedly touch up. If there was one product I recommend you get for the perfect vampy fall look, it would be this. You won’t regret it, I promise.

Ruby Kisses Ultra Matte Lipstick – Spicy Brown

l7

I’m all about finding affordable makeup products, and this is one that I’m very happy I stumbled upon. Something would be amiss if I failed to mention a true brown lipstick in this post. Because I have a caramel complexion, browns can be the perfect nude for me if I’m going for something less pink and more the natural color of my skin. Spicy Brown does just that, and for such a low cost, you can’t go wrong. The consistency is that of a traditional lipstick, but much more matte and not as creamy. These particular lipsticks can be the slightest bit drying, so I suggest properly moisturizing your lips beforehand (as you already should).

This Ruby Kisses Ultra Matte Lipstick retails for $3 USD and can be found on your local beauty supply stores.

Because the 90s brown lip is trending, and one of my favorite casual lip looks, I’d like to do a small comparison with a couple of other lip products that I own:

l2

Both Limbo and Kae are Ultra Matte Lipsticks from Colourpop. Limbo is a deep chocolate brown color, while Kae is described as being a deep warm yellow brown. Both, however, are gorgeous lippies with brilliant pigmentation.

The direct links to all of the lipsticks are embedded in each post, so if you’re interesting in anything you’ve seen, I urge you to pick one (or two or three) of them up!

Thank you all for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed today’s post!
