Going on ’17

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all had a fun, safe holiday. 2016 was such a wonderful year for me for so many reasons, but 2017 is now upon us and what better time than now to transform your life for the better. To start the year, I thought I’d come with a few goals that I hope to achieve (these are in no specific order):

Make a career move. I’m the type of person to always be looking for the next big thing. I’ve considered going back to school to get a terminal degree (specifically, my Doctorate in Nursing Practice) or travel nursing. For now, I’m continuing to gain experience in my field so that I’ll be ready to take the next step when the time comes.
Travel more. Seriously guys, this is the year for me to start experiencing more of the world. Now that my financial situation is better than it has ever been, I’m able to spend money comfortably on both national and international trips. And now that I have a traveling partner, what’s stopping me? My first vacation of the year has already been booked and will be to the Dominican Republic paradise of Punta Cana!
Get fit. This is probably the most cliché goal/resolution for the new year, but I’d like to get back to focusing more on my physical health and eating healthier. Though I’m not unhappy with how I look, there is always room for improvement. With an unforgiving work schedule, I know I’ll have to carve out time to work out more consistently at the gym, but it’s a sacrifice that I’m willing to make.
Learn new skills. I’m seriously such an insatiable learner. I love reading and learning how to do new things. This year, I want to step out of my comfort zone and learn how to do something(s) that I’ve never done before. The possibilities are endless, but I’d really enjoy learning something in the arts or languages area.
Expand my blog and network. By expansion, I really mean reaching more people. I have no idea how many people look at my blog or are inspired by the things that I write, but I want to take what I’m doing to another level. I want my social media presence to be bigger so that what I’m writing reaches many others. I think I can achieve this by collaborating with other bloggers, speaking at events, and continuing to be a multi-faceted influencer. This is something I definitely have to work hard towards. On January 28, I will be speaking at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA at the Atlanta Nurse Expo and am super excited about this opportunity. I’m hoping that this event will aid in spreading my inspirational work.
Say “no”. I’m pretty sure it’s my nature to always try and fix broken things. But this year, I have to learn to say “no” to things that are unhealthy to my physical, emotional, and mental well-beings–particularly the latter two. In 2016, I became friends with or initiated relationships with individuals who were subsequently toxic. I began putting too much of my energy into building up those relationships to, in retrospect, realize that they were already doomed from the start. I will continue to surround myself with those who have my best interest at heart and want to see me grow and prosper

I’m sure that my list will grow longer as I continue to live out the year, but these are a few things at the top of my list. I always recommend writing down your goals, so that they are tangible, reachable objectives. I wish everyone the best in this new year!
